The End of a Journey

Last week I completed a journey that started in 2006 when I left Bogotá to attend MIT and pursue a masters degree in Comparative Media Studies. Twelve years and a half later, I returned to my point of departure, closing a “viaje de estudios” (journey of studies) that extended more than expected, and that ended up being not only an adventure in knowledge and creativity, but also in career development. Interestingly, and not by coincidence, I returned to my home city and country, from Cambridge, Massachusetts, a city that I could call home in the U.S., and that became the gateway to many of my career explorations.

At the present moment, I left Cambridge and Boston, to go back to Bogota, Colombia, and take a new job as an assistant professor of communication at the Universidad Javeriana, and to help building the Centro de Estudios de Internet y Sociedad (ISUR) at Universidad del Rosario. After having completed a masters and a doctorate, and spent three years and a half as a postdoctoral fellow at the Berkman Klein Center at Harvard University, the journey has ended.

A new adventure begins, and I am adapting quickly to my new role and responsibilities, as well as to Bogota, the city where I grew up. Embracing so many changes and transitions in a place that has changed as much as I have is not easy but is life, a lively life full of surprises, challenges, and opportunities.
